WHO WE ARE & WHAT WE DOThe Head Start & Early Head Start Program is a child-centered, family-focused, and community-based approach to early care and education with comprehensive support services. Head Start ensures that low-income, special needs, and at-risk children and their families receive essential services, including education, health, nutrition, dental care, mental health support, social services, and meaningful parent engagement opportunities. Investing in Head Start yields significant long-term benefits. For every dollar spent, there is an estimated economic return of $7-$10, with some studies suggesting it could be as high as $17. These savings are realized through reduced costs in grade retention and special education services, along with higher earning potential and economic success in adulthood, ultimately decreasing public spending on welfare and the criminal justice system. The Florida Head Start Association (FHSA) serves as the voice of Florida's Head Start programs, grantees, staff, and families. We strive to keep the community informed, foster strong collaborations, advocate at the state and federal levels, and champion policies that directly impact low-income children and families. The Florida Head Start Association is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit, nonpartisan organization that serves as a voice for Florida's most vulnerable children and families.
